COLOUR Deep crimson with garnet hues. NOSE This classic Barossa Shiraz shows the warmth and rich aromatics of the season. Deep and brooding with dark plum, liquorice, anise and ripe fruits. PALATE Intense bramble/blueberry fruit weight upfront, dried herbal notes. balanced fruit/oak/fine tannins through to the finish, dark choc/toasted spice combines with a lovely fresh raspberry acidity on the finish There is a generous and inviting sweet depth of ripe fruit across the mid-palate. The wine is moreish, full and fleshy. The palate is long and concentrated with a finesse of tannins to finish. WINEMAKING A combination of small and medium size static fermenters was used, with ‘wild’ yeasts present on the grape skins being allowed to initiate fermentation. Cultured winery yeasts were then added to complete the fermentation and parcels were then pressed and run to barrel with the result being a wine with excellent depth of colour, richness and complexity. FOOD PAIRING Enjoy with a thick chargrilled eye fillet or roasted vegetable moussaka and watch the flavours sing. VINTAGE CONDITIONS A moderate winter lead to a warm and dry spring. This more moderate weather continued into summer until the end of January when approximately 25mm of rain fell on the Barossa. The rain was welcomed and gave the vines a much-needed drink to finish off the ripening process. The warm days during summer and early autumn were mediated by cool nights, leading to great acid retention and pristine fruit flavours being exhibited in our Shiraz wines.

The Auld family history has many layers and William Patrick (WP) Auld made sure very early on it wouldn’t be confined to South Australia, climbing aboard his trusty stead Wilberforce for many an adventure. The pair were part of the expedition led by John McDouall Stuart that successfully crossed Australia from south to north for the first time, with WP lending his expertise as a surveyor. WP forged a special bond with Wilberforce, a muscular 17-hand dark brown stallion who allowed only WP to ride him. WP worked in the Auldana vineyard and was a founding member of the Adelaide Hunt Club in the Adelaide Hills, often riding with well-known poet and jockey Adam Lindsay Gordon. A descendant of the English horses brought to Australia by the first settlers, Wilberforce would run all day without tiring despite Australia’s unforgiving climate and was WP’s loyal companion for 37 years. Similar to WP’s tireless nag, the Wilberforce range is the workhorse of Auld Family Wines and won’t let you down. Sturdy, dependable and always on hand, these wines constantly deliver, just like Wilberforce when transporting WP thousands of kilometers through the Australian interior.
